Visual Design

for INWEGO

The Problem

The visual design was loosely established during a time when INWEGO was a sport-centered app. Now that it grew to include events outside of sports, it was time for an update to make it more competitive with other modern ticketing and event apps.

Color Palette

Colors were tweaked to work with a new dark theme. Color codes were reassigned so that all 400s would be at the same shade. This enabled me to establish generic rules such as “all backgrounds can be shades 900” and "header copy can be any shade of 400".

Dark Mode

We landed on a dark theme because it was different from what our competitors were doing. The inspiration came from the excitement of the evening or night—a time when most people attend events. As a brand, we felt that INWEGO brings people together, so there is also a sense of romanticism brought out by a dark theme. Below is a snippet of how to properly use the new dark solids.

Layout Refinements

Users expressed that there was too much scrolling in order to find anything. I identified that just changing the height of the each event block would be an easy solution to this problem. The taller blocks also emphasized the imagery when we didn’t have much control over the quality of the images displayed. After playing around with different screen sizes, we determined that 160px was the most optimal block height.
